In the coming weeks Maryvale Schools will install sensors that can detect if someone is vaping.

The sensors will be installed in the bathrooms and stairwells, and "detect the vape smoke and alert designated school staff through a smartphone app," according to WKBW.

Vape smoke dissipates quickly and can be difficult to detect in more private locations such as stairwells and bathrooms. Currently, Maryvale patrols the hallways.

The sensors monitor air quality, and can detect a "vaping signature," says WBEN.

There will be 15 sensors installed in the school, and the district is looking at installing them in the middle school too.
