Before you fill up your pet's food dish, you might want to double-check the brand of food after the USDA has announced a massive recall.

The recall is for the food that was manufactured by Midwestern Pet Foods in their Chickasha, Okla. plant.

According to the USDA, the recall is for the Sportsmix pet food:

As of January 11th, the USDA was aware of more than 70 pets that have died and more than 80 pets that are sick after eating Sportmix pet food. Not all of these cases have been officially confirmed as aflatoxin poisoning through laboratory testing or veterinary record review. This count is approximate and may not reflect the total number of pets affected.”

If you have Sportsmix petfood you will need to check the expiration date. The recall is for products that expire on or before July 9, 2022, depicted as “07/09/22” in the date code on the product. Any products with expiration dates after 07/09/22 are not included in the recall.
