Shea's Theater officials made an announcement today that there was a massive $30 million upgrade coming to enhance the patrons' experience.

Good news for people who love going to shows at Shea's Theater in Buffalo. Today, they announced that they were going to be making some upgrades that will be put in place to "elevate and prioritize"  the experience of the patron.

Many of the upgrades will be on the outside of the theater

The press conference outlined a number of upgrades that will be taking place at Shea's soon. Many will be noticeable immediately outside the theater. Some of them included things like a heated pedestrian path and a covered dropoff area.  The facade will look quite different also.  Programmable digital signage will add a more contemporary feel to that side of the building.

My family has always loved the classic look of Shea's. It feels fancy and old-timey when you walk in. For those who are worried that it will take away from the classic "Shea's" look, don't be.  The upgrade will be taking place at the end of the building that most people don't enter from.  It will be on the face of the building that runs perpendicular to Pearl Street and Main Street.

The upgrades continue on the inside of the theater

The upgrades don't end at the door. There will also be new lounges, restroom facilities (which are desperately needed), and three elevators.

What should they focus on next?

These new upgrades will be major for patrons and will definitely make their experience better. The restrooms are desperately needed. The ladies' room line, in particular, is often so long that it takes all of intermission to get to the end of it.

We are season ticket holders in our family, so we are at the theater often. The only thing I wish could be addressed is the spacing between the rows. Depending on the row that you sit in (because the distance is different for every row), you can find your knees being smashed against the seat in front of you. I'm around 6 feet tall and sometimes have to sit crooked in the seat just to make my knees fit. I'm not sure how they would do that without taking out rows, but I've noticed a lot of guys like me doing the same thing.

Here's an example of a row that's close:

This seat is the row right behind that one:

It's not a huge difference, but when you're sitting there for 3 hours or so, you notice it. That's being very picky, though.  We love our time at Shea's. That theater is beautiful, and the quality of the shows that they're bringing in lately is incredible.

We can't wait to see what's next for our beautiful theater.
