Some residents in portions of New York State may see a few more military vehicles and helicopters overhead this week as training is taking place for the next couple of days.

As we start a new era in the White House, the world is watching and waiting to see if a new era of peace is also about to start. However, nuclear preparation is always part of the defense planning and will be happening across the United States.

Officials in New York State are giving a heads up to residents in the training areas.

According to reports, training includes the FBI, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, state and local agencies in the areas of Schenectady, Albany and Saratoga.

While the training is nothing to be concerned about, it might make a few people feel uneasy about seeing an enhanced military presence.

The amount of nuclear fallout shelters has declined here in New York State. Decades ago, there were thousands of them and at the height of the Cold War, there were massive numbers of shelters across the Empire State.

SILive.com reported that, "There were 10,000 such fallout shelters in New York City, and at least 200 on Staten Island, the Advance reported".

While the United States is always monitoring the nuclear threat across the world, here in New York is is great to see some sort of preparation and training in the event of a unthinkable event.
