One lucky Western New Yorker woke up today much richer than when they when to bed last night.

The New York State Lottery announced that a 2nd place winning Powerball lottery ticket was sold in Amherst and the ticket is worth $1 million dollars.

The luck of the Irish was with one lucky person when they bought their Powerball ticket on St. Patrick's Day at a Speedway Store on Maple Road in Amherst. The lucky ticket matched all 5 numbers but unfortunately didn't match the Powerball number.

The winning numbers from last night's Powerball were 34,38,42,61,62 with the Powerball number of 19.

Of course, the government will want a part of that $1 million dollars. The winner can expect to pay around $370,000 in taxes if they take the lump sum. If they take the money over time they would pay around $220,000 in taxes.

The lucky winner now has 1 year to claim the winnings.

This isn't the first time a lucky lottery ticket has been sold here in Western New York. A winning Take 5 ticket worth $58,000 was sold back in February. Back in 2020, two winning lottery tickets were sold in February.

If you want to take a shot at winning the Powerball, the next drawing will be this Saturday and the overall Jackpot is now around $200 million dollars.

Of course, it does take some luck to win the lottery but you can give yourself the best chance of winning by playing the right numbers. Over the years, there are certain numbers that have come up more often than other numbers.

These numbers have been drawn more often than any other number during the Powerball.
