Mindy McCready is the 5th ‘Celebrity Rehab’ Star to Die

Mindy McCready was once on a reality show that highlighted the struggles of celebrities who dealt with addiction.  It was called 'Celebrity Rehab' and unfortunately the success rate of that show hasn't been so great.  With Mindy's death, the total number of cast members who have died after being on that show is up to five.

The concept behind the show was to show that addiction affects everyone.  Regardless of their status, many people struggle with addiction even if they've been in the spotlight.  However, the idea behind the show was to prove that it can be treated if the right steps are taken.

Now it looks more like the show was using the celebrity struggle with addiction as a bad form of entertainment as very few of the stars have been rehabilitated.  Some of the ones who have died (although they didn't all die from overdoses) have had drugs or alcohol in their systems.

I find the entire story to be incredibly tragic and wish the best for the family of Mindy.  They will be forever left with questions that they will not be able to answer.

The man who had the job of treating the celebrities on the show was Dr. Drew Pinsky.  He made this statement to People Magazine:

"Mental health issues can be life threatening and need to be treated with the same intensity and resources as any other dangerous potentially life threatening medical condition. Treatment is effective. If someone you know is suffering please be sure he or she gets help and maintains treatment."
