More Than 200 New Apartments Are Coming To East Buffalo
The city of Buffalo has had a deficit of affordable housing for many years.
That deficit has been even more pronounced over the last few years with COVID-19 and the record inflation that we've had across the country since 2020.
However, thanks to a new apartment redevelopment project that is already underway in Buffalo, it should be a little easier to find an apartment that is affordable for low and moderate-income folks in Western New York.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced more than $90 million is being made available in Buffalo to help create and redevelop more than 230 apartments on Buffalo's lower east side.
The apartments are being built on the site of Buffalo's Pilgrim Village complex which is on the northern end of the Fruit Belt neighborhood.
The original Pilgrim Village Apartment Complex, which was built in the 1970s and is bounded by Michigan Ave, E. North St., Ellicott St., and Best St., had fallen into disrepair over the last few years. This new construction program is welcome to the neighborhood and has also created some construction jobs in Buffalo as well.
The groundbreaking of a $93 million development for the Fruitbelt area in Buffalo's Eastside, to provide affordable and energy efficient homes for city residents serves as a shining example of the New York State Homes and Community Renewal's commitment to revitalize our community.

When completed, 237 new rental units will be available to individuals and families who qualify as low and moderate-income. 105 of the apartments will be set aside for seniors aged 55 and older.
One of the best parts of this development will be that all 237 apartments will be 100% electric and are being designed to meet the new net-zero energy standards. This is good news considering that New York has already moved to ban the use of natural gas applications and services in homes and commercial buildings.
