The New Hampton Inn, located on Amherst Manor Drive in Amherst, is unique and designed to be more inclusive, according to WIVB.  The hotel's design is what makes it so special.  It was designed using 'Innovate Solution for Universal Design' and the hotel holds the first isUD certification in the U.S. According to the Whole Building Design Guide,

"Universal design, the term for this revised approach, was based on the premise that the environment could be much more accessible than the minimum requirements of law required if designers focused attention on improving function for a large range of people. At the broadest level, universal design is concerned with designing for diversity and equity."

This method of design creates spaces that allow people in wheelchairs better accessibility and more access.  The 105 rooms in the new Hampton Inn are placed strategically within the building for better access.  Even the entrances and exits in the building have been designed for people with varying abilities to utilize them. The isUD methodology originated right here in Buffalo.  It was came from the Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access at the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning,

"The IDeA Center is dedicated to enabling and empowering an increasingly diverse population by developing knowledge and tools that improve the human performance, health and wellness and social participation of groups who have been marginalized by traditional design practices."
