National Police Week kicks off next week and ahead of it WalletHub has released it's findings on the Best and Worst States to be a Police Officer in 2018. Right now there are over 900,000 law enforcement officers serving in the US and they face obstacles everyday and put their life on the line to serve their communities.  Like in any job, some states fare better for our law enforcement.

To find out which states were the best and worst they compared all the states and the District of Columbia over "25 key indicators of police-friendliness". This means everything from income to police deaths. It should be noted that this study is for Law Enforcement which includes "police and sheriff’s patrol officers, detectives and criminal investigators."

Good news is that New York finished very close to the top for the BEST states for Police Officers. Here is how the state ranked on some of the key factors-

Life & Work for Cops in New York (1=Best; 25=Avg.)

  • 5th – Law-Enforcement Officers per Capita
  • 27th – Violent-Crime Rate
  • 29th – % of Homicide Cases Solved
  • 3rd – State & Local Police-Protection Expenses per Capita
  • 26th – Police Deaths per 1,000 Officers
