It is the law to get one free credit score check.

Not too long ago, you were not able to check your credit score for free. Typically, it would cost you 15 bucks and there would be a limit of how many times you can check. It doesn't seem to be fair, right? After all, our credit score is basically how we afford life, how our interest rates get set and how we are able to borrow or pay for things in our life.

It is the law to get one free credit score check per the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

"You have the right to request one free copy of your credit report each year from each of the three major consumer reporting companies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) by visiting AnnualCreditReport.com. You may also be able to view free reports more frequently online."

This stat is the most concerning if you are worried about errors on your credit report:

Credit agencies are the most common subject of complaints filed to the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, according to research by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG). Complaints about credit reporting nearly doubled between 2021 and 2022, the nonprofit found", according to USAtoday.com.

There were thousands of people who volunteered to check their credit report for errors as part of a group and tons said that there were some big problems. Over a quarter of the testing group said that there were major errors that really affected the credit score.
