
New York State Law Says NO To These Licenses
There is a New York State law that prohibits residents from obtaining a certain license.
We are blessed to live in a state that has so many amazing natural resources and so many beautiful places. Contrary to what many outsiders might think, New York State is not loud and busy when you get outside of the New York City limits.
As we get ready to start a new month, there is hope that we can finally out the long and cold winter weather behind us. The overnight low temps are coming up above freezing and there are signs of new life all over the woods and fields.
But for those who love nature and wildlife, there are limitations to just how much you can have in your possession. New York State does a great job of protecting and conserving wildlife.
After seeing a story about the amount of raccoons that are in New York State, I did a deep dive in to the laws that impact the little masked bandits and there is one that caught my attention.

If you have ever wanted to make a raccoon a pet, you are out of luck.
NO LICENSE GIVEN
According to the New York State DEC, "No one may possess a raccoon without a license, and licenses are not issued for pet wildlife".
The spring is here and I have already seen so many animals on the move in the woods. We are days away from the annual trout season and the turkey season is almost here as well! Stay safe and be smart about the way you interact with any wildlife you might see.
