Parents all over America have their eye on this tonight.

Is New York State going to be next?

The State of California  has officially signed the bill to ban something that parents have been learning about more and more about: the dyes that go into our foods are not good for you.

Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, M&Ms and other items made with certain synthetic food dyes will be expelled from California public schools, charter schools and state special schools under a bill signed into law Saturday by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Assembly Bill 2316, which will go into effect starting Dec. 31, 2027, spells the end for snack foods that contain the dyes known as blue 1, blue 2, green 3, red 40, yellow 5 and yellow 6. All are common industry staples that can give foods unnaturally vibrant colors in an effort to make them more appealing", according to the LA Times.

Social media has certainly played a big role in the awareness that it has caused across the United States of certain food dyes. Red dye has been a popular dye to note that many parents say effects their kids in little time--they act different, their mood changes, even their sleep. Kellog's has been a big company that has received a lot of negative press over their dyes in food.

"The chemicals have been linked to developmental and behavioral harms in children, according to the bill’s authors, who cited a 2021 report from the California Environmental Protection Agency."

New York State is usually right behind California in some of these progressive new bills. Will Governor Hochul take the next step?
