There is a shortage that has bakers concerned this Thanksgiving that is having an impact across the country and here in New York State.

Eggs are missing from shelves in stores nationwide. In fact, there are reports that some stores are posting signs asking people to only buy what they need in order to keep eggs in stock.

The reason? Bird Flu!

According to reports, around 10 million birds have been infected with Bird Flu and that makes a huge impact on the eggs supply in isolated pockets around the country and that may cause shortages.

NBC ran a report that indicates various states are seeing these isolated shortages and eggs are now $1.30 more expensive nationwide than this time last year.

According to the CDC, there has been at least one person who was confirmed to have Bird Flu.

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed a human infection with avian influenza A(H5N1) (H5N1 bird flu) in a child in California. This is the first reported avian influenza H5 virus infection in a child in the United States. Consistent with previously identified human cases in the United States, the child reportedly experienced mild symptoms and received flu antivirals".

Get your eggs soon! The stores will be mobbed this week as we get ready for Thanksgiving and the threat of the first real snowfall in some areas of New York State. The basics that people scoop up first are eggs, milk bread!
