Just last week it was named America's Ultimate Fishing Town.  A different story this week for Olcott Beach.  The Niagara County Health Department has banned swimming there indefinitely because of high bacteria levels.

The beach was closed last year seven times for varying lengths of time for the same reason.  Health officials have an idea what the problem is.  They think the source of the bacteria is large concentrations of seagull droppings on nearby piers.

What a shame.  The view from Olcott and Olcott Beach is beautiful.  You can look - just don't swim.  Just a few days ago John LaMond posted a gallery of pictures of what he says is one of his favorite places in Western New York to visit.
