According to WIVB, a Democratic state senator has introduced a new bill that would ban the use of cellphones for anyone under the age of 21.

Get this -- the bill would make the possesion of cell phone punishable by up to one year in prison or a $1,000 fine, or even both.

Senator John Rogers, who proposed the bills, has his reasons, which include teenage driving deaths and bullying.

“In light of the dangerous and life-threatening consequences of cellphone use by young people, it is clear that persons under 21 years of age are not developmentally mature enough to safely possess them, just as the General Assembly has concluded that persons under 21 years of age are not mature enough to possess firearms, smoke cigarettes or consume alcohol,” the bill reads.

Rogers doesn't expect the bill to pass, but hopefully raise the awareness.
