Parents Force Kid To Hold Sign As Punishment
Right or wrong? It's been done before. Parents publicly punish their kids in order to teach them a lesson.
Worried that their 13-year-old daughter was becoming increasingly disrespectful to her parents and elders, a Florida couple made their child stand out on the side of a busy intersection with a sign that read:
"I’m a self-entitled teenager w/no respect for authority. I’m also super smart, yet I have 3 'D’s' because I DON’T CARE."
While police were notified of the incident, they say that officers did arrive on scene and that the girl was "aware of her punishment and she was not in any harm," Crestview police records show.
Althougth, now the parents may regret it with all of the backlash they have been receiving. “I wasn’t even thinking about what the public was going to think. I was thinking about our daughter. It was for her to be in the public and recognize what she had done wrong. We spend so much focus on not wanting to hurt a child's self esteem that we don't do anything".
"Walk a mile in someone's shoes," the statement read. "We must undo at home what the world tries to tell her is better."
Do you agree? Perhaps children need some harsh punishment to learn some respect? What do you think?
