Dramatic Rescue After Plane Crashes in New York River

There was a frightening Mayday call over the holiday weekend in New York State.

According to reports, a small plane experienced mechanical trouble and issued a Mayday call before crashing into the East River near New York City. Thankfully, emergency crews responded quickly, and all four people on board were rescued from the water.

Busy Holiday Weekend for Emergency Crews Across New York

It was an incredibly busy Independence Day weekend for first responders across New York State.

Emergency crews responded to heat-related illnesses, accidents, crimes, fires, and water rescues as thousands of New Yorkers celebrated the long holiday weekend. With temperatures soaring into the 90s in many parts of the state, firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and medical professionals had their hands full.

I’ve always enjoyed watching the local news on weekend mornings. Call me old-fashioned, but I still like turning on local television to catch up on what’s happening in the community.

This past holiday weekend seemed especially busy, with dramatic rescue stories and criminal investigations making headlines. Police departments in Buffalo and Niagara Falls, along with emergency crews across the state, were called into action repeatedly.

Mayday Call Ends With Dramatic Water Rescue

One of the most dramatic stories from the weekend was the small plane crash into New York City’s East River.

The pilot’s Mayday call was chilling to hear, but thanks to the quick response from the New York City Fire Department and other emergency responders, everyone aboard was safely rescued.

It’s another reminder of just how important well-trained first responders are during emergencies.

A Reminder to Stay Safe This Summer

After weeks of intense heat and humidity, the weather is finally expected to become a little more comfortable as we move into the second week of July.

Even so, summer remains one of the busiest times of year for emergency responders. Whether you’re driving, boating, swimming, or enjoying outdoor events, it’s important to stay alert and look out for one another.

Drivers should also remember that there are more children riding bikes, more pedestrians, and more motorcycles on New York roads during the summer months.
