Roughly a year after the mandatory resignation of Bishop Edward Kmiec at the age of 75, Pope Benedict has named his replacement.  Bishop Edward Malone of Portland, Maine will officially take over the Buffalo diocese on August 10th. 

Bishop Malone arrived in Buffalo yesterday and celebrated mass with Bishop Kmiec this morning.  The two will spend the day visiting St. Joseph's Cathedral, Our Lady of Victory Basilica and Diocesan offices as well as Diocesan staff.

The appointment was officially announced early this morning at the Vatican.
