A bill in front of the New York State Legislature is calling for a hefty tax hike on alcohol sales.

The bill, which was introduced to the legislature this month by NYC Assemblyman Michael DenDekker would increase taxes on alcohol by 50%.

Basically, the hike would call for a 3 cent increase on 12oz of beer, a 2 cent increase on a glass of wine and a 10 cent increase on a one-ounce shot of liquor.

On average, most 750ml bottles of liquor have around 25 ounces in the bottle which would mean an increase on $2.50 per bottle.

The money raised from the taxes would be allowed to addiction prevention and recovery services and programs.
