The Buffalo Sabres came up big in the biggest game of the year, to this point.  The Sabres built a 3-0 lead and rolled to a 5-1 win over the Washington Capitals Tuesday night in Washington.  Drew Stafford scored twice while Cody McCormick, Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville added singles.  Ryan Miller stopped 44 shots leading the Sabres to their fifth straight win.  Pominville second period goal in the second period came while the Sabres were killing a Capitals power play.  The Sabres were nursing a 3-1 lead at the time, but Pominville goal came during a two on one break and increased the lead to 4-1 and pretty much shut the door on the Capitals.

The win vaults the Sabres into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, two points up on the Capitals with five games left to play for both teams.  Next game for the Sabres is a Friday night meeting at home against the equally red-hot Pittsburgh Penguins.
