This week we salute James Lint, an Air Force veteran who resides in North Collins. James was nominated by Ann Converso, who writes:

James Lint is 65 years old and lives in North Collins. He is an Air Force veteran who served during Vietnam. He worked in the HVAC (heating and cooling) industry for years. He is retired for about 5 years. Since his retirement he has been extremely active in the community. North Collins is a very rural community and Jim has helped many of the farmers. Whether it be to bale hay, fix equipment or the many other chores that need to be done, he is there for them. He is an active member of the Senior Center. He also is active in activities outside of North Collins. There was a call to deliver water to Flint, Michigan during their water crisis. Jim loaded his truck to the max, drove the water there and then delivered it to the residents. He has been a strong and involved advocate for nurses and health care workers. He has lobbied in Albany for the passage of Safe Patient Handling and Safe Staffing. His greatest accomplishment is still ongoing. He is the President of the North Collins Veterans Tribute. This Tribute will be constructed on Route 62, the National Veterans Highway in North Collins. The Town Board asked for a volunteer to lead this effort and Jim said he would. He applied and got the 501 c 3 status. Got incorporated. Has a 11 member Board. The land has been dedicated. Groundbreaking has occurred. Land has been excavated. Electric has been laid out. All of the work is voluntary and by donations. The Tribute will be a Star laid with bricks that honor veterans. It will have service flags at each point of the Star. It will have a granite "V" in the middle with outstretched hands and an eternal flame. The project is projected to cost about $80,000. About $40,000 has been raised over the past 2 years and the vast majority of that money has been raised by Jim. He has done so much for the community and veterans, that he is now well known and well respected by everyone who meets him. He is also proud to be a veteran and be a large part of a Tribute that will honor them.
