It came in the mail today. The list of items that my kids will need to have for their first day of school arrived. How come I don't remember having such an extensive list when I was a kid?

This year isn't even as bad as some have been in the past. Don't get me wrong, I want my children to succeed in school and beyond, and I will always do my best to supply them with what they need to achieve that. But I don't remember having to bring all this stuff on my first day when I was young. We needed two pens, two pencils with erasers, maybe some crayons, a trapper keeper and a change of clothes for gym. That was about it. Most of everything else was provided by the school. We didn't have to bring glue and paper towels, and we only needed a small pack of tissues if we had a runny nose that morning.

Is it just me or is this getting crazy?
