Schools Will See Massive Addition in September Coming to New York State
There is going to be a big change when your kid walks into school and it can happen as early as this September. Governor Hochul is going to be spending $13.5 million on making sure that schools have enough money to put these in schools.
Governor Hochul has a new plan that she is going to be rolling out that would make cell phones banned in schools in New York State. Hochul wants classrooms to continue focusing on education and make sure there are no distractions. What is going to be the solution?
You're going to see new ways that schools are going to try and store cell phones.
Of course there is no perfect solution because you are going to be make someone, either parent or administrator, unhappy about the plan. BUT, this is what will be happening.
- Kids are going to have to drop off their phone, or secure their phone in a way that they cannot access their smartphone during the school day.
- This means from the time that the morning bell rings to the end bell rings.
- This also means that free periods and lunch will not be times that students can have their phone.
- Hochul would make it mandatory for schools to figure out a system that students can easily access and call their parents if needed.
- About 13.5 million dollars will go to this new plan in order to help schools get the security, storage or other means that they need to store the phones during the day.
Of course, some parents were super happy with the game plan.
Others not so much. Some citing that they think it is an 'over-step' and that they want their kid to have a cell phone. Some administrators say that cell phones in school aren't even an issue, but now will cause problems in the schools. I couldn't help but think: what if the school looses or misplaces a phone--what a disaster that could be.
