The 2026 High School Football season will be much different than in years past in Western New York. Section VI officials announced a major change for the upcoming season and beyond.

Major Change For High School Football In Western New York

Officials from Section VI high school sports, which covers Western New York, announced that the championship football games will have a new home. For the past 46 years, high school football players have had a chance to play where the pros played. The Section VI football championship games were played at the home of the Buffalo Bills.

That will all change in 2026, when high school players will find themselves playing for a championship at a new stadium. The Buffalo Bills will be opening up the new Highmark Stadium this fall, but it won't host Western New York championship football games.

This past weekend, officials with Section VI announced that championship games will now be played in Amherst at the University of Buffalo.

Starting this fall, all Section VI football championship games will be held at Broadview Stadium at the University at Buffalo. The games will be played on November 12th and 13th.

I feel like this is a big loss for high school players in Western New York. I went to West Seneca East, and while I played soccer, I had many friends who played football, and they always looked forward to playing where the pros played at the Bills stadium.

Don't get me wrong, UB has an awesome field, but walking into a pro locker room, playing where the pros played was always an amazing moment, and I am sad that future football players won't get a chance to do that......for now.
