The fall is here and across New York State things are starting to cool down and, in some cases, settle down.

The summer of 2024 was a busy summer for meteorologists as the National Weather Service confirmed around thirty tornadoes. Although some of these tornadoes were minor in nature and resulted in little damage, others were rather frightening as families scrambles to safety.

The video below was captured by a resident in Western New York as a powerful EF2 tornado ripped across their backyard and caused extensive damage in their neighborhood.

This was one of a few tornadoes that were confirmed in the Western New York area this summer. It caused significant damage to homes, farms and property in the southtowns of Buffalo, New York. Residents in the area are still cleaning up and the twisted trees in the woods will take months to be taken care of.

The weekend weather look pretty good for much of New York State as we enter the final days of September. The leaves are at their peak in the northern part of the state and just starting to show vibrant colors in the rest of The Empire State. It should be ideal for apple picking and a good trip to the pumpkin farms!

The only other weather issue that many are keeping an eye on is the warm water in the Great Lakes. The longer they stay warm, the more likely a lake effect snow event in possible.
