Severe Thunderstorm Warning; Hail Possible for Buffalo
The Buffalo summer season has just begun, as of last Wednesday, which means that hot and humid weather is here for the next three months. The temperatures will be in the 80's all week long and the humidity will be with us until Thursday, when more comfortable air enters Western New York.
However, the threat of thunderstorms and rain will be with Western New York for the next week or two, as unsettled weather will be the story, including on Monday.
Monday afternoon will feature major thunderstorms and the National Weather Service wants residents to be aware.
The NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Western New York, which includes the City of Buffalo, West Seneca, Lackawanna, Orchard Park and Hamburg. This goes until at least 1:15 pm.
UPDATE: The Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been extended through 2 pm.
Pea-size hail is possible with these thunderstorms, with 60 mph wind gusts and heavy downpours. This doesn't mean this will happen, but very possible given the strength of the pending storm.
If you are outside, it's best to get indoors. If you have to drive in the next hour or so, be careful and take your time to get to your destination.
We knew heavy thunderstorms were possible today and it appears on Buffalo's doorstep.
