Looking for a little something to make a little extra money and make your environment better?  What some people think of as a hobby could make some good money.

Things are expensive, and even with a regular job, some people are struggling to have any extra income.  A lot of people are on the lookout for lucrative side hustles to make extra money.  There's one here in New York that a lot of people might be overlooking.

It might sound crazy, but one of the best states for beekeeping is The Empire State.  Yes, that says beekeeping.

A site called Lawn Love did a study to find "2024’s Best States for Beekeeping" and New York came in pretty high on the list.  Even with the long, cold, and snowy winters, they fared pretty well.  They were second in the rankings.

The study looked at multiple metrics including rates of honey production, annual and quarterly colony loss, and apiculture establishments.  You can click here to see their full methodology.

New York did really well in the number of honey suppliers.  They were 1st there.  They were also 1st when it came to having pollinator-friendly policies.  But the interesting thing was the rank when it looked at economic profitability.  The average annual beekeeper salary in New York is $49,297.

Does that mean that you'll automatically make around $50k your first year trying to keep bees?  Probably not.  Most of the experts in the study seem to agree that there is a learning curve to keeping bees and that you will learn better practices year after year.  But it seems that it could be worth it to not only keep some bees, but also to help make your environment a better place to live.
