Which Ski Town Gets The Most Snow In Western New York?
We hear a lot about how much snow big cities in New York receive every year, but what about the ski towns that actually want the snow?
Every year New York state has a competition where they count up the number of inches of snow that each city receives. The city that gets the most receives "The Golden Snowball" award. They only count the snow between the 5 big cities in New York though. That includes Albany, Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester, and Binghamton.
Last year, Buffalo was the big winner after receiving just over 70 inches of snow. Syracuse was a distant second with around 60 inches.
The problem is that the big cities aren't the ones that normally receive the most snow. As a matter of fact, the town that received the most snow in New York State last year was a town called Ava, NY in Oneida county. They're just outside of Syracuse and last year they received around 132 inches of snow!
