The Buffalo Bills Restructure Spencer Brown’s Contract
The Buffalo Bills have a lot of holes this offseason. Today, Brandon Beane announced that they've made a move that could help to plug some holes on their offensive line.
The Buffalo Bills restructure the contract of Spencer Brown
Offensive tackle Spencer Brown has been a force on the Bills line since 2021. Today, Brandon Beane announced that they were able to restructure Brown's contract.
While the full details weren't disclosed, not only does this move help to get the Bills closer to the cap number, but it gets them closer to a chance at locking down more players on that line.
The Bills' offensive line was a huge weapon last year
Last season, the Buffalo Bills had the league's best rushing attack with James Cook. That doesn't happen without an offensive line. The fact that they were able to gel the way they did and keep Cook clean, for the most part, was a huge weapon for that team. A line needs chemistry. The more they play together, the better they normally get. That's something that has been at risk of going away in 2026 because of free agency.
The Bills have some free agents to address on the line
In my opinion, it's one of the biggest offseason issues to address. The offensive line has multiple free agents that the Bills will either have to find a way to re-sign, or find someone who can step in to play right away. Both Connor McGovern and left guard David Edwards are both free agents who can sign anywhere they like. For the Bills to sign them both is going to cost quite a bit.
It's not often that you will find an offensive lineman in the draft who is ready to step right in and assume a starting role. Those players normally take some time to settle in. Free agents who are good will cost you. Right now, they're expecting David Edwards' value to be around $19m. That's a lot of money!
Just restructuring Brown and saving $10m is a huge step to being able to re-sign at least one of those starters. There's more that can be done to save even more money too.
The question is, can Beane get it done in the next couple of days?
