It was forced to abruptly close last year after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from the Town of Cambria, but since then the owners of the Sunflowers of Sanborn attraction on Saunders Settlement Road have worked out an agreement that will allow them to reopen in August.

The town's original concern was with parking and although the owner had made accommodations for parking for up to 200 vehicles, cars were sometimes parked along the roads surrounding the farm.  The town also said the attraction was in a residentially zoned area that had become more than just a display of sunflowers.

Meanwhile, the town has made an amendment to the town's zoning ordinance that will allow for the granting of special event permits regardless of a property's zoning class.  Sunflowers of Sanborn has submitted a complete schedule of events for 2019 and the town has approved it.

Among the conditions of the permit, separate parking lot entrance and exits must be designated, a separate entrance for emergency vehicles must be created, no more than 50 vendors will be allowed and no alcohol or live music will be allowed.

The owners of Sunflowers of Sanborn plan to begin planting in the next couple of weeks.
