It's maple season! Our family was on the road early Sunday morning for the last day of winter and the first weekend of Maple Weekend!

The cold and damp morning combined with the fog, made for the perfect day to travel around southern Erie County and check out various maple producers and their sugar shacks.

The beauty of Maple Weekend is that you can visit three or four producers within a ten mile radius and only just scratch the surface of what's out there. There are two Maple Weekends and for good reason. There really is not enough time in one day to check out all of the great places, pancake breakfasts and events that are available to families.

Each maple producer's set up is unique and even though there are two weeks devoted to showing off what they have to offer, the maple producers work hard all year to get tap lines on trees, maintain their woods and equipment and plan for the spring sap run.

These are photos of our trip around on Sunday morning. We stopped at Benz's on Van Slyke Rd., Wendel's on Route 240 and Gable's on Lennox Rd. Each of which offered something different that was both welcoming and informative for our family!

The Maple industry is certainly growing and although if you ask any of the producers you may get a different opinion, it appears to have been a good season regardless of the roller coaster weather we have had.

Hank loved the wagon ride, my wife loved the crafts and I loved the maple moonshine! There truly is something for the entire family.

Maple Weekend continues this coming weekend March 25 and 26.
