When I was growing up, there was a big debate in Springville on whether or not the state should continue the 219 expansion project beyond the Village of Springville.  A few years ago, the project began and the highway was extended a few miles up the road over the Cattaraugus Creek Gorge.  Now, there is an old bridge that used to connect Springville to Cattaraugus that needs to be replaced.

That project will start on Thursday.  The old 219 bridge will be imploded to make way for a new bridge.  A project that will cost $16.9 million to create a new modern bridge in its place.

According to WKBW, Rt. 219 North and South will be closed to traffic for around 30 minutes starting around 10 am.  A portion of Scoby Hill Road will be closed as well.  Foot traffic and boat traffic will be closed on Cattaraugus creek starting at daybreak.  The State DOT says these restrictions will be strictly enforced.
