The Beach Club at Mickey Rats is a tradition for so many southtown residents during the summer and many take the drive down the 90 to Angola to enjoy drinks, warm weather and the beach. Unfortunately, this looks like it will be the final year for Mickey Rays.

WGRZ is reporting (via Buffalo Business First) that Elliott Development Co., who bought the property five years ago, has finalized a deal $30 million redevelopment plan for the Lakeshore Road properties.

If approved by the Town of Evans and the planning board, Mickey Rats and Captain Kidds would be demolished and 25 condos, apartments and a new restaurant would take their place.

The plan would be approved by the end of May.

Mickey Rats is opening for the season on May 21st but this would mean that they would close for good after Labor Day in early September.

We’ve heard about potential new projects for the property that Mickey Rats is on but to have this fate realized is sad. I’ve been going there for years and it’s a way of life for many during the summer. It has arguably the best view of Lake Erie in Western New York.

The end of an era. We will miss you Mickey Rats.
