If you are considering strictly the elevation of this particular area, there is one town in Erie County that is higher than the rest.
With an elevation of around 1940 feet above sea level, Sardinia New York in the southern part of Erie County comes in is the highest elevation in the county among the towns around it.

There are some incredible spots to view portions of Western New York that you may have driven on or through. For example, Jennings Road at E. Church St. in Eden gives you a beautiful view of Lake Erie, Lackawanna and on a good day you can see as far as Niagara Falls. Similarly, to the east of that, is Chestnut Ridge Park which also offers a fantastic view overlooking high Mark Stadium and the mist of Niagara Falls on a clear day.
If you are traveling on Centerline Road in the town of South Wales, there are also some beautiful views when you are rolling up and down the rolling-hills.
It is the best time of the year for being at any of these locations because the leaves are starting to change and some of them have come off already allowing for picturesque and clear views of many parts of the county. Sardinia is a beautiful location that’s talk to you in near the village of Holland off of Route 16 and is bordered to the south by Genesee Road, just north of Springville.
The friendly debate about what location is best, Northtowns or Southtowns will always be a thing in Western New York. But based on geography and topography, there is no comparison. Southtowns are just perfect!
