It is time once again to honor our local soldiers with our Hometown Heroes segment brought to you by Keller Chevrolet and Batavia Downs gaming.  Today we take a moment to recognize the soldiers who are no longer with us on this Memorial Day weekend.

These are the soldiers who have been nominated as our Hometown Hero but are no longer with us. Obviously there are many more that have made our country proud in their lifetime. However, these are the ones who have been nominated. We want to remember them all this weekend.

US Army Sgt. Shaina Schmigel

Sgt. Schmigel lost her life during a paratrooper exercise with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on May 30. Sgt. Schmigel was a former Medina High School student who loved her life as a paratrooper. She had already served one tour in Iraq.

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Neil E. Todaro

Neil was a 2000 graduate of Lakeshore Central School. He served 6 years in the United States Army and had reached the rank of staff sergeant and was serving as a recruitment officer before his death. He served 1 tour of duty in Iraq from 2003-2004.

Corporal Alan Brown

He was a Corporal in the Marines from Ellicottville, NY.  Our Hometown Hero is Corporal Alan Brown. Alan Brown served two tours of duty in Afghanistan.  The second tour was strictly volunteer.

Army First Lieutenant John Levulis

John was a graduate from Eden Jr./Sr. High School in 2008. After graduating high school he moved on to join ROTC at Niagara University where he obtained his degree in Criminal Justice in 2012. He was commissioned following graduation at Niagara, and deployed to Afghanistan in 2013.

Remember, if you'd like to nominate your hero from WNY, click the button below.  We like to honor both active duty and veteran heroes from right here in Western New York.
We would like to say thank you to our soldiers who fight for our freedom and humbled to honor those who are no longer with us as our Hometown Hero.
