School has been in session for just a couple of days, and one local high school had to deal with a threat made against it.

Threat Made Against High School In Western New York

Officials with Sweet Home High School confirmed that a threat was made against the school on Wednesday. Amherst police responded to that threat and deemed it was made by someone outside of Western New York.

This was the second threat made against the high school in 2025.

Back in May, a 14-year-old from Western New York was charged with making a terrorist threat and making a threat of mass harm. Sweet Home High School went into lockdown following that threat.

Sweet Home High School did not go into lockdown yesterday after the threat was investigated by Amherst Police. Students are also expected to be back to normal operating procedures this morning as well.

New York State Plans For School Threats

All school districts in New York State must have an established threat assessment team as per New York State Law. Back in 2023, Governor Kathy Hochul signed an executive order requiring every county in New York to establish threat assessment teams as well. These teams work together to prevent and investigate threats made against schools in New York.
