When some people experience intense scrutiny in the spotlight, many of them will crumble under the pressure. Then again, there are also those who step up and rise to the occasion during a difficult situation, getting through it and coming out stronger than before.

Bills Mafia has been wondering which scenario would be the case for starting kicker Tyler Bass

The beginning of Bass’s 2024-25 season wasn’t pretty, with the starting kicker making only 75% of his field goals and 90% of his extra points. And with memories of other huge misses still fresh (like the “wide right” in the Bills divisional round loss last January), fans weren’t shy about voicing their displeasure with his recent performance.

It soon became obvious that Bills management wasn’t happy either, when after working out several available kickers from around the league, the Bills made a very public “get it together” move and signed former LA Ram Lucas Havrisik to the practice squad.

After the new kicker’s signing, Bass told WGRZ,

“You understand it, man. It’s a business…it’s a results-based league, and at the end of the day you’ve gotta just keep putting in your work and control what you can control.”

The bold (and some would say threatening) move led many to believe that Bass’s days with the Buffalo Bills were numbered.

Tyler Bass Is Safe…For Now

Thankfully, even though all eyes were watching his every move, Bass has yet to succumb to the pressure. Since signing the extra kicker, Bass hasn’t missed, boosting his stats to 12 for 15 over the past eight games.

Today, he can breathe a big sigh of relief, because it looks like the Bills are going to give him a little bit of breathing room.

On Thursday, the Bills released Lucas Havrisik, a tell-tale sign that the team is starting to gain faith in their long-time starter once again. We’re sure that just because his main competition is out of the picture doesn’t mean Bass isn’t feeling some heat, but the move clearly shows that Buffalo is choosing, at least for now, to stand by their man.
