USPS Issues Statement About COVID-19

They have to touch pieces of mail that have been touched by many other people.  So what is the United States Postal Service doing to protect themselves (and us) from COVID-19?

The United States Postal Service released a statement about some changes that will be happening for carriers across the country to protect themselves and you and to avoid spreading this virus.

Some of the things that they are doing include offering liberal leave, and extended leave options for their employees.

They are encouraging healthy behaviors such as frequent hand washing, use of sanitizers, and additional cleaning of work spaces.

Something that will be changing is how they will be capturing signatures for packages that require them.  Their new policy may have the carrier ask the customer to step back a safe distance or close the screen door/door so that they may leave the item in the mail receptacle or appropriate location by the customer door.

It is mentioned in their statement and important to note that the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/faq.html), the World Health Organization (https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses), as well as the Surgeon General have indicated that there is currently no evidence that COVID-19 is being spread through the mail.
