New York State Town Going Nuts Over Viral Squirrel
It is like a scene out of a Disney movie in a backyard in Western New York State. This all white squirrel, dubbed "Snow White" has been wandering about from tree to tree. But is an all white squirrel rare??
The fall is quickly approaching and the days are getting shorter. Animals, like squirrels, are trying to forage for food to store away for the dark and cold days ahead.
There is not a day that goes by without seeing some sort of wildlife on the move. Seeing animals happens so often that it becomes like wallpaper. After awhile you barely even notice it.
But we can't stop looking out the window at THIS WHITE SQUIRREL.
So the question remains, just how rare is a white squirrel?
White Squirrels In New York State
There is a good chance you have seen plenty of grey squirrels and red squirrels and black squirrels here and there. But when it comes to an Albino squirrel, the likelihood of them is about one in one hundred thousand!
If you look closely at the squirrel in the video, it appears to have red eyes and one can assume it is in fact an Albino!
According to a post from SmokyMountains.com "All white squirrels aren’t created equal. Many people assume a white-colored tree squirrel in North America to be an albino. Actually, though, albino squirrels are fairly rare. Albinism is a recessive condition characterized by the complete absence of the dark-colored pigment melanin".
This was one of those moments that we are glad we were able to get a video to share! Most people wouldn't believe it unless they saw it!
