What Every Bills Fan Teaches Their Kids, Growing Up In Buffalo

When I was a kid, I used to always watch Bills games with my dad and older brother. You have that certain age as a kid; where you are old enough to watch the games, but not quite old enough to recognize what exactly is going on.

It was right around that time that I loved buying any kind of sports apparel that I found appealing. A six or seven-year-old loves cool designs and colors.

One of the logos and color schemes I found appealing as a little kid was the dreaded Miami Dolphins.

I once asked my dad if I could get a winter jacket with those colors and even as a little kid, my dad looked at me and said, "there's no way I'm buying that for you; I will not walk around with you wearing that thing."

That's when I learned all Bills fans have to dislike the Miami Dolphins. All young Bills fans are taught the phrase, "Squish the Fish."

My dad loved saying that. In fact, I'm pretty sure he utilizes the phrase to this day, even though Dolphins week has lost its allure, since they haven't consistently been good in quite some time.

It wasn't long after I became a diehard Bills fan and along with hating the Dolphins, I grew to hate the New England Patriots, although that was a bit more organic, since I really started following the Bills when the 17-year playoff drought began and the Patriots dynasty started. I know, horrible time to start watching the team.
