June is National Safety Month and it's a topic that covers a lot of ground.  If you live in a safe environment it gives you peace of mind. From crime, to natural disasters, to workplace safety, access to health insurance, it turns out New York ranks among the safest states in the country.

In a comparison of all 50 states, the personal finance website WalletHub, used 37 categories to determine their safety ranking and New York emerged as the 13th safest state in America. Among the things they looked at were assaults per capita,  unemployment rate, loss amounts from climate disasters per capita and law enforcers per capita. 

New York emerged third best in the country in the category of Personal and Residential Safety and fourth highest in Law Enforcers per Capita.
