Why Do People Face The Door On An Elevator?

It’s just one of those things you do and don’t really think about, when riding an elevator we step in, turn and face the door.  Probably because we’re then ready to exit when the door opens to the floor we are going to or that it would be a bit uncomfortable looking directly at a stranger in a crowded or even worse an empty elevator.  Well, this morning a guy gets on the elevator and doesn’t turn and face the door, he rode facing the rest of us, it was a little weird. I ride the elevator to the 12^th floor of everyday a few times a day at work, and have thought to myself and have even joked to co-workers about doing this just to be funny and freak people out, but have never done it.  Kudos to the guy who did this morning, yes it was uncomfortable but I congratulate you Mr. who rides the elevator in an unconventional fashion, ha-ha.
