The World's Largest Yard Sale is this weekend at the Hamburg Fairgrounds. If you're planning on checking it out, check these tips before you go. They could help you score a huge treasure.

Anyone who's ever gone to a yard sale knows that you can find some really great stuff for really cheap there. Most people are trying to get rid of this stuff without giving it away. They know what it's worth, or else they would have simply donated it and been done with it. So how do you get the most out of a yard sale? Here are some tips you can try to score big:

1. Cash is king...but try to make sure it's exact - In most cases, you're going to need cash. Some people will let you Venmo them, but for the most part, they want money in their hand. So instead of making them break a $50 for a $2 item, have plenty of singles on you.

2. Learn the art of negotiation and bundling - Don't be disrespectful to the sellers. It's ok to offer to pay a different price, but if they disagree, instead try to bundle a couple of things together to get more value for your dollar.

3. Get there early - It's not just a saying. In the case of yard sales, the early bird does get the worm. Many of these items are one of a kind, so once they're gone, they're gone. Don't wait while someone else gathers up your treasures.

4. Know when to just walk away - It is easy to see something and just buy it because its cheap. Ask yourself, "Am I buying this because I need/want it or am I just buying it because it only costs a couple bucks?"

5. Look past the dust - Sure, things can be dirty, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth much. Sometimes you have to dig through dusty bins, or dirty piles of things. A quick cleaning on an item you buy at a yard sale could help increase its value by A LOT.

6. Make sure electronics really work - Plug them in whenever you can. When it's electronic, if it doesn't power up or do what it's supposed to, it can be a pretty pricy paper weight.

7. Make a plan for getting stuff home - Looking for furniture at a yard sale? Don't bring your Prius. This might be a good time to see if your friend with a pickup truck is available before you buy. At the very least, make sure to clean out your car completely before you leave because you never know what you're going to find there. Have plenty of space, and maybe even a tape measure to make sure it's going to fit when you get it home too.

8. Keep your eyes and your mind open - Maybe you're hunting for tools. Don't overlook a great deal on something else just because you've got blinders on and that's all you're looking for. Be sure to embrace the treasure hunter mentality.

9. Bring your own bags or boxes - Just like in the grocery store it's a good idea to bring your own bags. It just makes it easier to carry your things around throughout the day after you've bought some stuff.
