It's the end of a long run for one iconic Buffalo building, as it faces the wrecking ball.

Plans to demolish Voelker's Bowling Alley and surrounding buildings are in the works.

Buffalo Rising reports Hannah Demolition has been hired to demolish four properties at the corner of Elmwood and Amherst in North Buffalo.

The bowling alley itself, located at 680 Amherst, along with three multi-family homes at 666 and 668 Amherst, as well as a mixed use property at 1634 Elmwood are all slated to be demolished.

The Preservation Board will be reviewing the plan, submitted by owner Krista Voelker, at its Thursday meeting.

Buffalo Rising reports there was no reason cited for the demolition, but noted the properties have been marked for sale for some time.

The for sale listing reads:

The site of this property has a city block of frontage starting at 666 Amherst and runs east up to the corner. 680 Amherst turns north on Elmwood to Marion ending at the dead-end of Marion. Marion encompasses the entire frontage on the south side of Marion to the dead end. This property is also included in a portfolio sale of ten separate parcels including the corner of Elmwood/Amherst and Marion Street Parcel as indicated in green. The portfolio consists of approximately 3.38 acres.

Voelker's has been in business since 1892.
