Usually, you go to a dollar store to find deals right? Get as much bang for your buck. However, some of those items may have been expired when you purchased them.

According to WKBW, dollar store shoppers in New York State may have purchased expired items, such as obsolete motor oil and over-the-counter medication.

The investigation conducted by the New York State Attorney General's Office has discovered that Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar had medication on the shelves, that had expired months prior.

The investigation also found that some motor oil sold by Dollar General was not suitable for most cars built after 1930.

All three stores will have new policies in place to enforce a stricter system to record and track medication and conduct monthly audits for their products to search out expired items. They also will have to pay a combined $1.2 million in fines.
