For the second week in a row Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin were involved in an incident, but this time it sent Hamlin to the hospital after a hard crash on the final lap of the Auto Club 400 in California. The two were battling for the lead when Logano bumped Hamlin sending both into the wall. Hamlin took the hardest hit and collapsed when he got out of his car. He was alert after the race but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Keselowski Wins At Dover, Takes Points Lead

Maybe he’s tearing a page from the formula Tony Stewart used last year – just keep winning, especially when they mean so much. Brad Keselowski is the leader in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship after winning for the second time in three races. Keselowski had just enough fuel to hold on to the lead and hold off Jeff Gordon to take the victory at Dover International Speedway. It’s his fifth win of the season.

Jimmie Johnson is the leader after two races after finishing second at both Chicago and New Hampshire. And this week he could really build on that lead with a win at a track where he’s very well over the years and where he’s won four of the last seven races.

Earlier in the week Denny Hamlin tweeted “We will win” and he backed it up with a dominating victory at New Hampshire in the second race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

That was despite qualifying 32nd because his crew put the wrong air pressure in his tires. Pretty frustrating because he had the fastest car in both practice sessions.

A big win in Atlanta Sunday night for Denny Hamlin. His fourth win of the season will mean at least a tie for the lead heading into the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship after next week’s race at Richmond. Hamlin held off Jeff Gordon on a green, white, checkered finish to win for the second week in a row and at the same time putting a real dent in Gordon’s hopes of making the field for Chase.

Denny Hamlin was having a great day at New Hampshire. He had led 150 laps and was lengthening his lead when debris on the track brought out the yellow flag. And that’s where everything changed. His crew chief wanted to change two tires, but on the radio it sounded like Hamlin wanted four. The extra time in the pits shoved him all the way back to 13th place for the restart. It almost didn’t matter. Almost. Hamlin drove his way thru the field but the best he could do was second place.

It’s amazing the way changing weather conditions can affect a race car. Yesterday when a mostly cloudy day at Kansas Speedway turned sunny – it was good news for Denny Hamlin. For most of the race he was chasing Martin Truex, Junior and kept thinking to himself something needed to change and it did. The sun came out and Hamlin says his car responded. He was able to pass Truex and hold on for his second win this season and his first at Kansas.

Kyle Busch made it a 3-peat in the spring race at Richmond International Raceway Saturday night. He stretched his final tank of gas to 107 laps to beat teammate Denny Hamlin, denying Hamlin a weekend sweep at his home track.

Busch led 235 of the 400 laps at the ¾ mile track including the last 85 for his 21st career victory and second this season. The fuel strategy was so close, Busch couldn’t finish his victory burn-out. He had to be pushed to victory lane.
