What a start to the season for Kevin Harvick.  The defending Cup champion has opened with three straight top-2 finishes including a win in Sunday's Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  If you look back to the last three races of last season Harvick has six consecutive top-2 finishes, duplicating the feat of Jeff Gordon in 1996.

A cold, damp day in Atlanta, but it was just fine for Jimmie Johnson.  It was more than halfway thru Sunday's race that he finally edged his way to the front.  After that his car kept getting better and the rest of the field had a tough time keeping up.

It came down to a green, white, checkered finish and at the end it was Joey Logano winning his first Daytona 500.  Logano ran up front almost the entire day, led 31 laps including the last one and it was not only his first win, but his first Top 5 finish in the 500.  It's Logano's ninth career victory.

In the biggest race of the season during what he says is his final full-time year in Sprint Cup racing, Jeff Gordon will have the pole for next Sunday's Daytona 500.  And alongside him in the front row will be teammate Jimmie Johnson.  It gives Hendrick Motorsports their fourth front row for the Great American Race.

Four races left in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship and it's down to eight drivers left after Sunday's race at Talladega.  One of the drivers who entered the race in jeopardy of elimination and needed to win was Brad Keselowski and that's exactly what he did.

Half way thru the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Brad Keselowski are in serious jeopardy of being eliminated from the next round of the Chase. Kevin Harvick did advance with Saturday night’s victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Chalk up another win for Joey Logano, his fifth of the season.  Logano beat Kyle Larson to the finish line at Kansas Speedway by half a second to insure himself a spot in the third round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.  It's his first win at Kansas, eighth of his career and ties with Brad Keselowski for most victories this season.

It was a big weekend for Penske Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway.  Joey Logano became the fifth driver to win three Sprint Cup races this season when he held off teammate Brad Keselowski Saturday night.  Keselowski won the Truck Series race and Penske driver Ryan Blaney took the Nationwide event for a clean sweep.

It didn’t take long for NASCAR to react to that fatal accident in Canandaigua last weekend involving Tony Stewart.  20-year old Kevin Ward, Jr. was killed during a dirt track incident when he was struck by Tony Stewart’s car.  On Friday, NASCAR issued a rule directing drivers not to disconnect any safety equipment following a crash until permitted to do so by safety personnel.
