There have a been a ton of confirmation sightings of some pretty big rattlesnakes in New York State.

There was a rattlesnake that was found at Letchworth State Park last month. It was ran over by a car and ultimately survived, but since then there have been many more sighting of other rattlesnakes across New York State. Typically, the garter snake it the most common in New York. If you see a rattlesnake, it likely will not come and bug you. If you hear the rattle of the snake that is when you should be worried. If they rattle that is when they are threatened and there is a bigger chance that they will strike.

"Timber rattlesnakes seldom display aggression unless defending themselves. The public is reminded to leave the snakes alone and observe from a safe distance," the DEC said.

There was a boa constrictor in Erie County that officials had found in an abandoned house:

At midnight on Aug. 2, ECO Damrath received a call from Lackawanna Police assistance with a large, unknown species of snake reportedly found by an individual in a vacant house. ECO Damrath arrived at the location a short time after receiving the call and took possession of the reptile, identified as a boa constrictor. The Officer then took the snake to an animal hospital for evaluation. A reptile rescue group will eventually find the boa constrictor a new home.

Next time that you are camping out in Western New York, be on the lookout.
