General Peter Chiarelli

For some people it comes naturally.  For others it's something they never seem to learn, but for a four-star general, the second highest ranking officer in the U-S Army it was a classy thing to do.  General Peter Chiarelli, in full dress uniform, was a guest at a recent Washington dinner when he happened to walk behind another guest who was already seated.  White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, a long-time friend of President Obama, thinking the general was a waiter asked him to get her a glass of wine.  She saw the stripes on his pants and assumed  he was waiting on tables.  She immediately realized her mistake, but the general didn't bat an eye.  He went over and poured her a glass of wine and delivered it to her table.

In this day and age how often does that happen?  The general could have rolled his eyes and called over a real waiter.  He could have scolded her that she should have noticed his uniform.  Or any number of things that some celebrities might pull.    General Chiarelli not only delivered the glass of wine, he did it with a smile AND seeing the White House advisor was completely humiliated, he invited her and her guest to his house for dinner.

Isn't that a great story?  It's a lesson we can all learn something from.  Give it a try the next time somebody makes a mistake and see the dividends it pays.
