There is a massive storm that is happening in New York State today. Even when the snow is not falling, there will be a huge wind storm with gusts getting up to 45 miles per hour.

The snow has been so bad that the traffic to get into work this morning was delayed almost an hour at points. The weather is not expected to die down until Friday night into Saturday morning.

Snow is expected to come almost 2" per hour in some areas.

  • Buffalo 3 - 5”
  • Niagara Falls 2 - 3”
  • Hamburg 6 - 10”

It is really hard to see if you are driving around and as the day goes on, the wind is really going to be picking up, making it hard for the afternoon commute. Go slow and keep your lights on as you drive, especially on the major routes.

An area of heavy snow will move across the Buffalo and Rochester metro areas through 9 a.m. This will bring extremely poor travel conditions with poor visibility, 1-2 inches of snow in an hour, and winds gusting to 45 mph with some blowing snow. Avoid or delay travel if possible", the National Weather Service has posted.

High schools in Western New York has canceled school abruptly before schools opened. The night before over 40 schools had be cancelled in Western New York.

The weather next week in Western New York is actually looking like a bunch of rain is coming and the temperatures will certainly be melting some snow as they are in the mid 40's at least for the first half of next week.
